Basketball

Basketball is one of the most famous sports in the whole world. It is a fast-paced and exciting game that demands individual skill, teamwork, and strategy. The game is played between two teams, each having five players. The main goal is to score points by shooting and having the ball go through the opponent’s hoop , which is a circular rim with net and is mounted on a backboard.

##The History of Basketball game

Basketball was born in 1891 by a man named Dr. James Naismith, a physical education teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts. He wished to create a new type of sport that could be played inside during the winter months. Naismith jotted down 13 basic rules and hooked up a peach basket to a elevated track, making the first basketball hoop. The first match of basketball was played using a  soccer ball, and each team consisted nine players.

The game rapidly gained fame and spread to other schools and colleges. In 1896, the first professional basketball league, the National Basketball League (NBL), was born. Over the years, basketball continued to evolve, leading to the setting up of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1946, which is now known as the premier professional basketball league around the globe.

##How Basketball is Played

Basketball is played on a rectangular court which is 94 feet long and 50 feet wide. At each end of the court is a hoop, which is mounted 10 feet high. The game is divided into four quarters, each Quarter lasts 12 minutes in the NBA, though other leagues and levels may vary in duration.
